welcome!
Thank you so much for choosing Way Up North Photography to capture your family. I'm very honored and super excited to work with you!
Information
A typical family session usually lasts about one hour (give or take). I can get several images in that time frame and always try to get a variety of combinations and backgrounds. I shoot a lot of candids so you'll receive a mixture of posed images and those in-between moments as well. A full gallery usually includes 100-200+ images and is typically delivered two weeks after your session.
Locations
I have several favorite locations that I love to use and I'm always willing to explore new areas! Here's a short list of some of my favorite go-to spots: Rattlesnake Lake, Gold Creek Pond, Point Defiance Park, Owen Beach, Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, Millersylvania State Park, Fort Steilacoom Park, Titlow Beach Park, Priest Point Park, Mt. Rainier (Paradise, Sunrise, Reflection Lake, Tipsoo Lake), Discovery Park, Pike Place Market, Gasworks Park, Museum of Glass, Bellevue Botanical Gardens, Franklin Falls, Snoqualmie, Deschutes Falls Park, Tanwax Chapel, and more!
Session Time
I love shooting right around sunrise or sunset because the light is very flattering and pretty. Due to Alaska’s long sunlight hours in the summer and short sunlight hours in the winter, these times vary drastically. In the summer I prefer the early morning or late afternoon/evening since the light is not so harsh then. In the winter I prefer to plan sessions during the hour the sun is rising or setting, and these times will change throughout the season.
Outfits
I'm here to help with outfits, if desired! My style guide will give you lots of ideas and tips. Please don't hesitate to text, call, or email me with styling questions or ideas while you're shopping! Outfits should mesh with location, so keep that in mind when shopping.
Tips & Tricks
Don't feel like you have to try and get everyone to look at the camera and smile at the same time, to behave, listen, etc.—just relax and let me do all the work! I can get genuine smiles and all you have to do is interact with your family.
Props
I always bring a quilt or two for you to use during your session—sit on it, wrap up with it, or use it however you want! Don't hesitate to bring anything else that you’d like to incorporate into your session as well. And YES, pets are always welcome!
Final Thoughts:
The most important thing of the day is to have FUN! I want this to be fun for you and your children. I laugh, joke, tease, tickle, play games, and smile a lot. I want your session to be as custom to you and your family as possible. I want to photograph kids being kids and mom and dad being lovey. Don't worry about posing; I have a few ideas! And tell dad not to worry—his job will be super simple. :)
So relax, have fun, and enjoy this time with your precious family. I can't wait!
